Standard First Aid (Intermediate First Aid) Training

Blended Certification Course | WSIB-Compliant

The Standard First Aid, now referred to as Intermediate First Aid Training, is a comprehensive, WSIB-compliant course designed for workplace first aiders and individuals who want the skills and confidence to respond to a wide range of medical and injury-related emergencies.

This course is delivered in a blended format, combining online learning with mandatory in-class practical training. Participants must successfully complete both components to receive certification.

How the Course Works

✔ Online Learning (Theory)
Participants begin with the online portion of the course, which covers essential first aid knowledge, legal considerations, and emergency response principles. This portion must be completed before attending the in-class session.

✔ In-Class Training (Hands-On Skills)
The in-class portion focuses on hands-on skill development, scenarios, and demonstrations. Full participation is required to practice and demonstrate critical first aid skills under instructor supervision.

⚠ Certification Requirement:
To become certified, participants must complete the online portion and attend and fully participate in the in-class training. Certification cannot be issued without successful completion of both.

What You’ll Learn

This course prepares participants to recognize and respond to common workplace and everyday emergencies, including:

• Medical emergencies such as heart attack, stroke, asthma, anaphylaxis, and shock
• Breathing and airway emergencies
• Severe bleeding and wound care
• Head, spine, and musculoskeletal injuries
• Environmental emergencies (heat, cold, burns, frostbite)
• CPR and AED use
• Infection prevention and first aider safety
• Legal considerations, consent, and the role of the workplace first aider
